About our Learning Disabilities Care in Dereham

Westfield House Care Home in Dereham provides residential and respite Care and support for individuals with disabilities and specialises in the care of those with Autism Spectrum Disorder. 

The home is a warm and welcoming environment with a particular focus on empowering our residents to live full and fulfilling lives with unique and enriching experiences every day.

Westfield House is rated Good Overall with the Care Quality Commission, with an Outstanding line in the 'Effective' category.  Within the report the staff team at Westfield House were described as providing high quality care and support to residents:

make choices and decisions and maintain their independence as much as possible'.

The staff team at Westfield House were nominated in the 2021 Learning Disability & Autism Awards, and were finalists in the 'Outstanding Autism Award' category. 

Westfield House currently supports up to 12 residents and is situated in the popular market town of Dereham, Norfolk.

Dereham has all the amenities of large towns, including; Doctor’s surgery, post office, supermarkets, newsagents, public houses, bakeries, various general stores, churches, public libraries, and local parks.

Our Misson

To provide individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Learning Disabilities with an innovative and inclusive solution to residential and respite care in Norfolk. To ensure our staff understands the specific and often complex needs of those individuals whom we support and the ways in which we can respond to those needs. To provide a care package that focusses on independence and progressions, delivering positive outcomes for every resident. To enable and encourage every individual to communicate in their own way; whether that be through speed, sign language, symbols or objects of reference.

Person-Centered Therapy

At Westfield House, we have a range of provision and services that allow us to deliver a truly state of the art care package tailored to meet the specific needs of every individual. Our resources include; a sensory studio with large projected cinema screens, polytunnel and growing gardens for horticultural activities and a hydrotherapy bath.

Augmentative and Assistive Communication (AAC)

AAC is an umbrella term used to describe additional methods of communication other than speech. At Westfield House, we use communication symbols throughout the home and our staff has the experience and access to training in sign language, picture boards and objects of reference.

Transition Coordinator

Our transition coordinator will work with every individual throughout their journey with us, in the development of an individualised and unique discharge plan. At Westfield House, we understand that residential care should not be for life but instead be a means of progression and development that will allow individuals to gain the life-skills and confidence required to live and/or work as independently as possible.

We offer disabilties care in Dereham, amongst our adaptable services; facilities are continually reviewed and updated in order to provide a safe environment in which the needs of every individual are met. We work collaboratively with our residents; their input and involvement allow us to provide a care package tailored to suit their own unique and specific needs. Our highly skilled staff are given the skills and confidence that they need in order to deliver the highest standards of care and support to every resident. Every person matters and will be treated equally, compassionately and with the utmost respect & dignity. Independence, choice, and individuality are at the core of our values. We cannot replace home, however, while you are with us, we will never stop trying.
