Black Swan launches Dementia Awareness sessions

This week we hosted the first of our Dementia Awareness evenings at The Beeches care home in East Harling, South Norfolk, which is one of our homes registered to support people living with dementia.

 

Families of residents, staff and members of the local community listened intently as our trainer Michael presented an introduction to dementia* and how we support residents in our homes, followed by an informal Q&A while enjoying some wine and cheese.

 

We are planning to host more of these sessions in our homes in the coming months as part of our wider dementia strategy.

 

*Did you know that one million people in the UK are estimated to be living with dementia. Dementia is an umbrella term, with many different types. Alzheimer's Disease is the most common, accounting for 60% of all diagnoses, followed by Vascular dementia as the second most common type of dementia, affecting around 150,000 people in the UK, followed by Lewy body dementia and fronto-temporal dementia.
