Valentine House is an elderly care home in Silver End, a small village in Essex, between Braintree and Witham. The Home is a large care facility able to accommodate up to 50 residents, including special support for those living with Dementia.
The home underwent a large-scale renovation recently and benefits from spacious bedrooms with en-suite facilities. Valentine House has been rated as ‘Good’ by the Care Quality Commission with an ‘Outstanding’ line in the Responsive category.
Within the report the care at Valentine House was described as: "The needs of people were at the core of the service'.
"Everyone we spoke with praised staff for the exceptional care they received'.
"Comments included, "The atmosphere is brilliant, and the staff are
amazing", "A building is just a building, it's the staff that make it and they really are fantastic."
Valentine House benefits from a beautiful private garden with modern patios, and a large grassy area backing onto the home’s private carpark which our residents loved ones can use at their leisure.
The gardens are used to full effect throughout the Summer months with meals being served in the garden so our residents can enjoy the sunshine and warmth with regular barbeques, birthday celebrations and activities.
The home features a number of communal areas including the lounge, a well presented dining room, a public house style area, and quiet spaces for our residents relaxation. Valentine House also has an in-house salon where residents can book hairdressing and nail care appointments on a regular basis. All floors can be accessed via lift to ensure mobility is not an issue for any of our residents.
Silver End is a quaint area, with a number of local amenities just across the road from the homes front door, allowing our residents the freedom to explore the local area.
The home is lucky enough to be directly next to the beautiful memorial garden, and a short walk from the nearby Church. Valentine House is situated directly at the heart of the village with a row of shops, and a doctors surgery directly opposite the homes entrance.

During the lockdown, everything that could be done to protect the residents and staff from Coronavirus was done to a high standard. Whenever myself or a member of our family have telephoned with queries or worries about our mother, we have felt listened to, and we are very appreciative for the care shown and given. - Elizabeth B

Relates to recent visit under social distancing rules. Very pleased to hear that the home was considering careful visits after a long lockdown. I was advised and consulted throughout, sensitively and thoughtfully. The visit was well organised, safe and comfortable for residents and guests. Mum has been resident since February 2019. Whilst it took her a while to adjust, she is now happy at Valentine House. Staff are caring and make things fun, they are very helpful in sorting out any problems. Mum has recently been in hospital and Valentine House were very helpful in getting her back home and getting her back on her feet. - Julie G
Very good care home with emphasis on care! My mother and father have both resided here, Mother has since died. Always easy to communicate with the staff and always a friendly smile. Obviously, due to Covid-19, I have hardly visited the care home in recent months, nonetheless, they have been easy to contact by phone. As far as I am aware there have been no Covid cases in the home which in itself is no easy task! Well done Valentine House. - Beverley A
