The Gables care home is situated in the centre of the Cambridgeshire market town of Chatteris, where we provide short-term, respite and longer term care and support for up to 49 residents. The home is rated ‘Good’ by the Care Quality Commission and has an outstanding local reputation.
The Gables is beautiful inside and out, with private courtyard gardens for our residents to enjoy, as well as a number of communal areas including large lounges, dining room and relaxing quiet spaces. The home features a salon where residents enjoy regular hairdressing and nail appointments. A lift takes residents to the first floor making it accessible for all.
Making residents’ stays a special as possible is fundamental at the home. Residents are all treated to their own special personalised birthday cake; something The Gables is renowned for ensuring residents have a very special day being spoilt.
The town of Chatteris is a pleasant and historic setting with many fantastic attractions including a library, local history museum and weekly market. The high street benefits from a post office, public houses, bakeries, newsagents and general stores. All are literally within a short walking distance from the home, with a doctor's surgery, multiple churches and local parks also close by.
The Gables is proud to have been recognised as one of the Top 20 care homes in the East of England, based on reviews from residents and their loved ones, by carehome.co.uk. The home has won this accolade for 6 years in a row.
We are incredibly proud of the service we provide and are always happy to show people around the home.
I stayed at The Gables over Christmas and it was a wonderful experience and everything for me was perfect. - J H
My experience with The Gables is more than satisfactory. Excellent staff and management. Very helpful and kind. Due to COVID, we have not been able to view Mum's room, but visited a friend in 2018 and was very impressed with cleanliness and atmosphere. - S W
My mother was a resident at The Gables for over 5-years. During that time she received exceptional care from the staff who all went above and beyond, taking the time to get to know her and giving her individual care, even holding a special Australian day party for her. The home has high standards of cleanliness and a feeling of home from home, providing enjoyable entertainment even in the lockdown. All the staff are marvellous and are very welcoming at all times, keeping family informed as to what is happening with regular newsletters and telephone updates. I could not have found a better home to meet my mother's needs, and I cannot praise all the staff enough. - Lindsey T
I was very grateful for The Gables at Chatteris. My dad was only there for about six weeks and he was bedridden most of the time but the carers couldn't have done more than they did. They kept him as comfortable and pain-free as possible, would recommend the home to anyone. - Valerie W
The Gables is a marvellous home for my mum, the staff are kind and professional always attentive. The food is exceptional and organised events. Terrific. - Chris D
After a two-week Covid quarantine, Mum is settling in well and making new friends, participating in the activities and enjoying the food. The staff have been attentive and caring, and we look forward to visiting when conditions allow. - John W
Mum came to live at The Gables after a hospital stay. She has problems swallowing food and had lost confidence in living independently. The manager and her staff have begun to build her confidence in eating and the care they are providing is exceptional. Mum enjoys the social side, company and entertainment, she now has peace of mind that if she has any worries or problems there is always somebody there that she can speak to. - J G
My aunt has been in The Gables for over two years. She has always been shown the greatest of respect, and the best care has been given to her. At 99, she has become very frail. I am very assured that she is well cared for and her needs are met by the dedicated staff. - L M
I knew as soon as I spoke to the manager that this was going to be a well run safe and proactive place for mum to stay. My questions were answered before I even asked them. Despite my mum's admission being during a COVID lockdown, the staff made her transition very easy and any problems (all minor) have been resolved very quickly. As I have been unable to see further than the visiting room (due to COVID) I can't comment personally on the rooms, facilities and cleanliness but my mother says they are all excellent. - A K
My husband and I have had the greatest support and guidance to a very lengthy and stressful council process getting my grandmother into the Gables as she has never been in a home we had our doubts she would be able to adjust. With thew warmest/friendliest team this is certainly not the issue. She absolutely loves it! Thank you to the Gable team. - Kellyann P
