Support Worker (Nights)

The role of a support worker is unique, in the sense that as well as providing care to residents - you become their advocate and ensure their needs are being met to the highest standard.

You may be accompanying a resident to see their favourite rock band, supporting them on a shopping spree, or providing enriching in-house activities at the home. You will be aware and responsive to our residents physical and emotional needs, and ensure that all activities are accessible for all.

At the heart of this role's requirements is to find people who are kind, compassionate and dedicated to improving the lives of our residents through person-centred care packages as unique as each of them.

Purpose of Position:

  • To share with other staff in meeting the personal care needs of residents in a way that respects the dignity of the individual and promotes independence.
  • To help in the support of the Residents' physical environment and in the general day to day activities of the Home.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Assist residents who need help with dressing, undressing, bathing and the toilet.
  • Ensure Residents are treated with Privacy and Dignity and at all times.
  • Help Residents with mobility problems and other physical disabilities, including incontinence; help in the use and care of aids and personal equipment.
  • Care for Residents temporarily sick and needing, for example, minor dressings etc., under the supervision of the senior staff.
  • Keep up to date with Residents care needs by reading Care Plans, Risk Assessments and Daily Notes.
  • Help in the promotion of mental and physical activity of Residents through talking to them, taking them out, sharing with them in activities such as reading, writing, hobbies and recreations.
  • Inspect, launder and mend Resident’s clothing. Make and change beds; tidy
    rooms and do light cleaning; empty commodes.
  • Ensure that you maintain the Environmental Cleaning Schedule and checklist found in the Infection Control and Cleaning File.
  • Set tables and trays; serve meals; feed Residents who need help; adhere to SALT recommendations; prepare light meals and wash up; tidy and clear the dining room.
  • Answer emergency bells, the doorbell and the telephone; greet visitors.
  • Read and write reports; take part in staff and Residents' meetings, Shift Handovers and in training activities as directed.
  • Contribute towards the development of activities and daycare programmes for Residents in which they can join in and which will enhance their quality of life.
  • Assist under supervision, senior staff with the administration of medication.
  • Read, understand and adhere to all company policies
  • Such other duties as may be required.
