Staff Development: Deputy Manager’s Meeting Success

We’ve always been dedicated to developing our staff to the highest standards and listening to their feedback and ideas, and now we’ve launched the first Deputy Manager’s Meeting.

We have been holding managers and regional manager’s meetings for a number of years to discuss campaigns and initiatives in our homes, share ideas and plan for the future.

What we realised towards the end of 2019 was that our deputy manager’s voices were not being heard to the level that we wanted them to be. This prompted us to think about the hard work they do and decide new ways to ensure they had just as much input as the company as the home manager’s.

We’ve decided that just like our manager meetings, deputies would have a meeting every six months with head office staff to ensure that their ideas or concerns were being listened too, as well as refresh them on training areas and the core principles of the company.

The first one was held at the Arlington Hotel just outside of Norwich last Friday (7th February 2020) and included presentations from regional managers; the head of marketing, operations director, managing director and one of the companies founding fathers.

We covered everything from CQC Reports and key lines of enquiry, to infection control and our new status as green home’s thanks to stopping the usage of carcinogenic cleaning products in our homes.

As well as being an informative day helping our staff to gain knowledge and understanding, it was also a really wonderful chance to hear about all of the brilliant things which have been happening in each of our individual homes.

From end-of-life care so personal that a bedroom was turned upside down to ensure a resident could see the sky when she passed, to a resident whose dream of seeing a stripper led to a ladies night of Magic Mike XXL with a private screening for her and her friends within the home.

We’ve got such unique and brilliant residents and it was really nice to hear about the individual cases of person-centred care happening in each and every one of our care homes.

We want all of our staff to feel valued for the hard work they do, and to show them that they are very much appreciated they all received a box of chocolates and a bottle of prosecco to take home at the end of the day.

We’re committed to showing our appreciation to our staff which is reflected in our new employee of the month prize with every winner getting a box of exclusive Black Swan chocolate’s which we’ve made in association with the wonderful chocolatiers Whitakers.
