Nightingale Lodge – near the Hunstanton seafront – was inspected by the Care Quality Commission in September and was rated overall outstanding, making it the third home run by Black Swan Care Group to achieve this rating.
Sandra Rowe is the manager of Nightingale Lodge and she’s been working at the home for over twenty years. She said:
“The home has progressed ever since I’ve been here.
‘There have been lots of changes, and I’ve got an absolutely wonderful team who supports me and the regional manager is wonderful.
“The home has always been ‘good’, ever since I’ve been here, so just to get the ‘outstanding’ is amazing!”.
Nightingale Lodge was the first home Black Swan Care Group purchased after forming the idea to overturn struggling care homes. It was purchased in 1994 before Sandra joined the team in 1998.
Black Swan Care Group now has twenty homes across the East of England spanning Norfolk, Cambridgeshire, Suffolk, Essex, and Lincolnshire.
In the report the Care Quality Commission praised the company, stating that ‘Person-centred care was a cornerstone of the service’.
Black Swan believes in trying to make the care home environment as close to home as possible, by nurturing each resident's individuality and provide experiences tailored to their needs and desires.
They provide bird baths in gardens where residents have expressed an interest in bird-watching, or hold baking classes for service users who enjoy cooking.
Managing Director of Black Swan Care Group – Tom Lyons – says he has an award-winning team:
“This is a fantastic achievement which recognised the passion the team has for delivering personalised care.
‘I am incredibly proud of all the team who collectively work together to enhance the lives of those living with us”.
Within the last twelve months, Black Swan Care Group homes have been inspected thirteen times in total, resulting in nine of the care homes receiving ‘Outstanding’ ratings in select criteria and three rated outstanding overall.
The rest of the homes have been rated as good.
