A friendly cat at The Haven has been nominated for a BBC Radio Lincolnshire Make a Difference award.
Staff at The Haven were both shocked and delighted when they received an email to notify them that Nevah, their much-loved resident cat, had been nominated for the award.
An anonymous nomination stated that Nevah “brings daily comfort, companionship, and joy to the people living in our residential home”.
“Nevah spends her day keeping the residents happy – wandering through the lounges at the home – often settling beside someone who may need a little company or curling up peacefully on a favourite chair.”
Gerda Makaravicuite from the home explained what happened: “We were quite shocked when we received the email. We’re not sure who nominated Nevah, but she gives our residents lots of comfort, joy and companionship.
“Many of the residents at the home have lived with pets and sometimes miss the companionship they offer. Our residents enjoy stroking her, talking softly, or sharing stories about animals they once loved. These moments encourage conversation, connection, and happy memories.”
The next stage of the competition is for the finalists to be selected and those shortlisted will be invited to the BBC Make a Difference awards event — a celebratory afternoon tea — at the International Bomber Command Centre in Lincoln in September, where winners in each category will be announced.
Gerda continued: “I don’t think Nevah likes afternoon teas, so if we get shortlisted, we’ll have to attend on her behalf, but she’ll be with us in spirit and we’ll keep our fingers and paws crossed that we win!”
